Sometimes it boggles my mind, of how many things you can make with simple materials. So this week, I started with these 3 simple alphabet wall decoration ideas for home . And, I’ll be honest I had quite a few restrictions in mind, like the colors, the materials, the time taken and more. So, I had estimated a single standardised design, that I would replicate for all of them. Sad, I know. In my defence I was really strapped for time. But, as it turns out, I’m not great at standardised designs. And, in the same timespan, we managed to make 3 simple but amazing alphabet decoration styles. Here’s what we made!
Aztec Inspired Alphabets.
Materials: Base Alphabet, Straw or Coloured String, Adhesive, Scissors, Black marker, Ruler, Pencil. Black Paint, Paint Brush
Time: 60-90minutes
Steps:
1. Draw a simple aztec design on the alphabet and mark out the spaces where you would like the string.
2. Paint the back and the sides of the alphabet black.
3. With the marker, colour in your pencilled design. Focus on highlighting portions of the alphabet with bold lines.
4. Without pasting it, wrap the string around the marked portions and measure it. Cut the string to the required length.
5. Then apply the adhesive in the marked areas.
6. Start sticking the string from the back to the front moving in a clockwork direction. While making sure the strings are as close as possible.
Washi Tape Alphabet
Materials: Base Alphabet, Straw or Coloured String, Adhesive, Scissors, washi tape plain and designed, Ruler, Pencil. Yellow Paint, Paint Brush
Time: 60-90minutes
Steps:
1. Paint the alphabet in a block colour like yellow.
2. Mark the areas where you want to stick the washi tape by drawing straight lines.
3. Cut the washi tape in the required lengths and paste it on the alphabet.
4. Without pasting it, wrap the string around the marked portions and measure it. Cut the string to the required length.
5. Apply the adhesive in the spots marked for the string.
6. Start sticking the string from the back to the front moving in a clockwork direction.
Gilded Alphabet
Materials: Base Alphabet, Straw or Coloured String, Adhesive, Scissors, Masking tape, Ruler, Pencil. Red, Green and Gold Paint,Paint, Paint Brush
Time: 60-90minutes
Steps:
1. Paint the alphabet in a bold color against which the gold will stand out.
2. Mark the area where you want to paint the gold.
3. Cut masking tape in the length of the alphabet and paste it straight. (Don’t worry about the paint. Once it has dried, it wont peel off because of the tape)
4. Paint in the gold and let it dry completely before removing the tape.
5. Without pasting it, wrap the string around the marked portions and measure it. Cut the string to the required length.
6. Apply glue to the portions meant for the string.
7. Start sticking the string from the back to the front. Making sure the string is as close as possible.
What I especially like about these alphabet decorations is the variety of ways in which you can place them. You can place the alphabets directly on the shelf or hang it on the wall with sting or hook. You can also attach a magnet for fridge. There are so many options!
