This was the best crafty day ever! Because it was tailor made for all my favourites. Ombre, because I’m still not over it and I don’t think, I ever will be! Tassels, because I’ve been making them for everything from t-shirts to party decorations to gift wrapping. And, keychains because I enjoy collecting them (Not to brag, but I have over 200!). So, we had to put it all together for our DIY on how to make ombre tassel keychains at home.
You would think these are difficult to make. But, they’re deceptive that way. Tassels are amazingly easy to make and you’ll end up making these in minutes. I know this for a fact, because my 10 year old students were making them during our last workshop. Here’s how they’re made!
Time taken: about 20 minutes per keychain
- 3 sheets of paper (same colour family)
- Key ring
- Raffia / thin ribbon
- Double sided tape
How to make:
In order to make these tassel keychains, follow the steps shown in the video. It’ll take you through, from start to finish.
TA DA! There you have it! A pretty ombre tassel keychain that adds a pop of colour to your keys.
Also, if you like this video, then please give it a thumbs up on our youtube channel and subscribe (if that’s something you want to do). We’re trying to make one video a week minimum. In the same style, as the one you just saw. And, we would love to hear your thoughts on the DIYs, how you would have made it, how we can improve. Or even if you just want to say Hi 🙂
Things to know:
- When you’re rolling the tassel, align the paper to the upper line of the tassel. The more it’s in line, the better it will look.
- Get a rough idea of how long you want the keychain to be, before you cut out the raffia.
- If you don’t have any ribbon, you can use a thin strip of paper to make the loops for the tassels.
- You want to use normal or thin paper to make the tassels.
I really enjoy making tassels, because they’re so versatile! You can mix up the materials (leather ones look gorgeous!), adjust the size (shorten or lengthen the tassel portion) and play around with embellishments to make a variety of them. Definitely try it out!
